"I really couldn't be without them. It is lovely to have a carer, they do help you".

Direct Payments

Direct Payments are cash payments that Social Services pay to you, instead of giving you a service.  This gives you the freedom to choose who you would like to provide your care and to specify the type of care services you want.  It also gives you the flexibility to alter the type of services if your needs change.

Social Services will first carry out an assessment of your needs and eligibility for a funded service and once this is established, the money will be paid direct to you.

In order to help people understand Direct Payments and what it means to them, Candlelight has produced a downloadable leaflet called Direct Payments - Your Questions Answered (.pdf).

Further information can be found on the Department of Health website.
