01/07/2010 - Recognition for Candlelight Care Staff

The Mayor of Glastonbury's Party

It was a real family affair as the Mayor of Glastonbury, Cllr John Coles invited guests to a party to mark his new appointment.

Attending the event along with Cllr Coles’ wife Sandra, were his brother, Glastonbury Town Crier Graham, their mother Hilda Coles and sister Shirley Morse, who is a carer with Glastonbury based Candlelight Homecare Services.

Cllr Coles also invited Candlelight care staff Liz Mapstone and Sarah Keele in recognition of the support given to his late father-in-law Sidney Wall who was a Candlelight client. Mr Wall, 91, from Glastonbury, suffered from dementia and had been cared for by Candlelight since January 2009 until his death earlier this year.

Care worker Liz Mapstone said: “He was a lovely man, and very talented. He uses to do a lot of carpentry in his early years and in fact built his own bed that he slept in, along with a dining table. There were lots of pictures around the home of him in his younger years and it’s clear he was a very handsome man.”

An Afternoon To Remember

Some of our clients, singing along to songs from the 50's.

A big thank you to Wells Evening Society who provided a wonderful afternoon for some of our clients in the Glastonbury area, by treating them to a trip down memory lane and a delicious home-made tea.

"I cannot speak highly enough of the carers who come to me. I would be completely devastated and lost without them. It's so nice to have the same girls regularly, I feel so comfortable with them. Thank You"
