13/05/2010 - Somerset Review of Services

People with a loss of sight or hearing in Somerset are being urged to take part in a review of the services available to them.

There are about 1,300 people registered deaf or hard of hearing in the county, 3,000 as having sight loss and nearly 500 with loss of both senses. It is estimated there are thousands more in the area who are not registered or receiving support. Somerset County Council will use the review to develop future services.

Julie Shorrock, the council's project manager for sensory loss, said: "We want to hear from as many people as possible, not only those who have recently received support or treatment, but also the many people who may never have sought help before."

Five public meetings will be held by Peter Fletcher Associates who are conducting the review. These will take place in:

Anyone wishing to attend one of the meetings, or who cannot but still wants to share their views, can contact Peter Fletcher Associates which is conducting the review.

Telephone 0844 8009283 or email info@peterfletcherassociates.co.uk

Information about the review and the public meetings is can also be available in large print, audio format or Braille by contacting Peter Fletcher Associates on the numbers above.

An Afternoon To Remember

Some of our clients, singing along to songs from the 50's.

A big thank you to Wells Evening Society who provided a wonderful afternoon for some of our clients in the Glastonbury area, by treating them to a trip down memory lane and a delicious home-made tea.

"I cannot speak highly enough of the carers who come to me. I would be completely devastated and lost without them. It's so nice to have the same girls regularly, I feel so comfortable with them. Thank You"
